On Tuesday February 10, we received our Conditional Use Permit from Whatcom County. This is a document that essentially says the County will allow us to build a new Dining Hall and that they approve. It has been a long process, but a good one.
The next step is applying for a building permit. We are in the process of getting final plans together for submission to Whatcom County. Our hope is that we will have a building permit in hand by the middle of March.
Many of you have been asking about where the Centerhouse is going and what is going to happen to the Longhouse. The new building will be built above the skate ramps on the grassy strip that goes up to the “Y” in the road. It will be approximately 8000 square feet (the Long House and kitchen are about 2800 square feet). It will give us the ability to provide a much more enjoyable eating experience for our students. The Longhouse will become an indoor recreation facility and give us the flexibility for some indoor programming on those rare days when it rains at Firwood.
Please continue to pray for a great relationship with Whatcom County and for God to go before us in everything that we say and do, as we move forward.
