The crew has started the framing stage of the Centerhouse. They have started with one of the side walls in the basement as well as the glue-lams in the upper section. The support beams require nailing in lots of joist hangers which Doug Walker and his two assistants, Robb Watson and Landon Block, were helping to secure today. Check out the video and photo gallery below.

Over the last week or so, the crew has been working on setting four poles that go from the basement to the roof. Last Friday, they finished pouring the concrete retaining wall that protects the parking area from the hillside. They have also started working on the filtration system that will go between the building and the Skate Ramps.

Progress continues on the foundation for the Centerhouse. The walls have been poured along with the concrete slab in the basement. The crew, along side the help of some volunteers, is working on putting up a waterproof membrane and back filling the foundation. They are also working on digging out for the footing for the wall that will go behind the kitchen. Early August should bring the start of framing.

An update from Tom Beaumont, Executive Director of The Firs.
As you can see by the thermometer graph a big part of the funding for this project is in place and a big part is still outstanding. While we have bridge financing lined up it has been our objective from the start to have this building paid off in three years (counting this one). We are in the process of getting the word out to all connected with the ministries of The Firs in one way or another. It has been very encouraging to see many rise up and commit a pledge or give a donation to this project. It is also very daunting to see how much is still ahead of us.
The funding for the Firwood Centerhouse actually started several years ago as people responded to the need. From a couple of estates and a number of gifts we started this year with almost $50,000 in our fund. 2009 has brought 53 people pledging over $244,000 and over $54,000 in additional donations so far and the gifts continue to come in every week. The donations range from $15 to $15,000 and come from expected and unexpected sources. While a big part of our revenue to date has come from our capital fund and the sale of an asset, before this is over I’m sure we will see a surge of gifts exceeding our expectations from a wide geographic area. We hope as well to see a significant grant from one or more charitable foundations. But mostly we expect God to show up provide us with what we need through people and in ways we could never imagine.
If you are interested in being a part of what God is doing at The Firs use this website to donate using the links to the right or simply put a check in the mail.

With the footings finished, the crew has been working on forming up the walls of the building the past couple of days. The plan is to hopefully start pouring concrete in the forms early to mid next week. It is exciting to start seeing some elevation in the site.

Concrete has been poured! Yesterday the crew poured the concrete for the footings of all the exterior walls. The next step is to strip all of the forms and start forming the walls so that they can be poured. Camp has started and generated a lot of interest from campers and parents alike. Please continue to pray for safety on the site as the work keeps chugging along. Check out this time lapse video of the past week or so of work on the project.

Today the crew starting building the forms for the foundation for the basement walls. They also continued excavating near the parking lot and kitchen corner of the building. If the forms keep going along as planned, hopefully we will be able to start pouring concrete early next week.
